Any reason to get this over the new i8 which is multicolor without a cfs? And cheaper?

I suppose the i8 is still new and just starting the production phase. You can still back it on indiegogo. Their goal is to have everything shipped by end of Nov.

You should get the i8 if you plan to do multicolor. The i7 is a great printer but the waste it creates for multicolor is ridiculous. And that goes for any printer that supports multiple colors and doesn't have multiple tool heads or a special nozzle (such as the i8). The only benefit of this over the i8 is the CFS which handles automatic load and unload of the filaments, but you can buy that separately.

Except for the fact that shipping was set for October and I haven't received a notice that the i8 shipped at all.

yeah, no notice on shipping. I would like some info, do not like being left in the dark. Was suppose to be, starting in October, well we have 1 day left. They could at least put out an update, or mention it on one of the live streams.

I think they posted an update recently:

https://www.indiegogo.com/en/proj.../updates/4

TL;DR they say the first few thousand have left the factory. "Shipping" though is literally shipping on a ship to the destination countries - which will...take time. They say expected delivery to folks would be end of December. Kinda hand wavy estimates though.

I have a pledge for the I8, will probably sell my Elegoo CC1 + canvas. Single tool head multicolor prints create a lot of waste and are really best for when you have as few color changes as possible for the print or you want to use the AMS for continuous prints where you may run out of a color and having it automatically switch to another roll is useful.

I8 only supports PLA and PETG which is quite a limitation. The I7 at least supports TPU.

Plus, they recommend not using PLA and PETG at the same so you can't even really use it for easy support removal:

"All four filament channels share a single heating assembly. For this reason, we do not recommend using materials with significantly different printing temperatures at the same time.
For best results, all four channels can be loaded with PLA, or all four channels can be loaded with PETG."

The i8 design is great but I am going to wait.
I saw a teardown and the tool head has all plastic gears and parts inside.
Maybe that will change for the production units who knows.
But this is already harkining back to the ender 3 days of having to upgrade the extruder to an all metal one, calibration or steps wow fun times.
I wonder if micro swiss is still in business they would probably make an all metal kit for the i8 if they are.
I will wait for a machine with two if these quar tek style heads though preferably a core XY and metal gears

Purge waste is still there whenever colors change; the 50% figure is measured against other multicolor systems, not against single-color printing.

Does anyone have information on the Creality Cloud? I saw that on the indiegogo and wonder if there's any locked down features or functionality tied to needing an account or a subscription.
