This refurbished Dell OptiPlex 7090 UFF is a compact workhorse with strong memory for the price, especially the 32GB RAM and Windows 11 Pro. The i5 1145G7 is laptop class and not a powerhouse, but the specs are still better than many similarly priced mini PCs or refurbs. It was designed to mount on the back of Dell monitors, can run on USB C power delivery, and has multiple USB ports. The main cautions are the soldered CPU, the limited upgrade path, and reports that the SSD or replacement parts may be lower quality. It is a decent fit if the unusual form factor and modest CPU are enough.

  • The 32GB RAM configuration can help support homelab workloads like Home Assistant, Frigate, and a local NAS.

  • The OptiPlex 7090 UFF design can fit on the back of Dell monitors for an all-in-one style setup.

  • The system can run power delivery through USB-C, which can simplify cabling for some setups.

  • The unit includes multiple USB ports, which can support everyday peripherals for homelab use.

  • The CPU is soldered to the mainboard, which limits user upgrade options for long-term performance.

  • The refurb SSD quality may be low and can fail quickly, which creates reliability risk for storage.

  • Ordering can fail due to out-of-stock cancellations or late notices, which can disrupt deal timing.

  • The UFF form factor can require a special offset VESA mount for TV mounting, and pricing for that mount may be hard to find.

wow. the ram and hard drive is like half the price. Can use this as a server.

removable ram too.
You can use any computer as a server. The uff (ugly fat friend) is just a headless laptop. Both have sodimm slots if you want to hit 64gb. This processor + 64gb is just silly, though. No real use case.

These days, I don't really use my server cpu for much. It's all GPU. At peak load, my server hit something like 1/20th of capacity.

It's basically a laptop without the screen. You can get a similarly specced laptop for about the same price.
Don't know why you're downvoted.. You're 100% correct. And these do not come with a power adapter. When sold new it was an addon because it was supposed to be powered by the monitor these hook onto the back of.

The laptop will have it's own power adapter..

This CPU is very mid and lackluster but the 32gb of RAM help. You generally won't find 32gb of RAM in this price range ever. That being said, I wouldn't purchase this strictly because the CPU is such a bottleneck, especially for future proofing.
It's likely that they replaced the OEM RAM with cheap aftermarket RAM.

Why would they do such a stupid, useless thing?

this is a fine deal for what it is. refurb business class laptop like the one linked earlier is probably a better value. can't go wrong either way in the current market.

It's like any place on the internet. Voting is about how people feel, not logic or truth. I recently criticized a deal. I was corrected. I said i was wrong. Pretty rare around here. Pretty rare around anywhere.

Third party refurbishers do it to reduce costs and increase margin. Supposedly it's better business.

It's a five-year-old computer probably with two 16gb so-dimms. It's not a year old server with ddr5. I can't imagine anybody would people to make a buck swapping to cheaper RAM of the same size. Now maybe a 32GB module would be worth removing and selling.
