Crazy how these are selling here for more than what I paid for a new one directly from Steelcase 7 years ago.
That's generally how inflation + demand works. A Steelcase Amia return is about $600 using the code. Brand new they were like $800 pre-covid. I went with a refurb for $550 because of the Crandall custom foam seat is better than OEM. Though I would say..anything more than $600 for an office chair is generally pretty insane unless custom big n tall varient
So I'm a tall, lanky guy, 6 ft 3 in and 165 lbs and would like recommendations of a chair to get where the top of the back does not hit my shoulder blades.
Most chairs are not tall enough for me I've tried.

Take the following with a grain of salt because it's an AI comparison:
I'm 6' and not lanky, but picked up a Haworth Very from Craigslist for $150. It goes almost all the way up my shoulder blades (maybe 75% of the height).
This comparison says the Zody, which is in this sale, is about the same back height as the Very.

I'd look around on fb marketplace. I picked up an Amia with OEM seat locally (like new) for about $200 about 2 years ago. YMMV of course. Prices have been around $200-300. I am considering getting a new cushion from Crandall.

If you're in the market now, then the post and other recommendations are great ideas. If you can wait and are willing to search, you may have great luck on FB marketplace and OfferUp. Anecdotally, i picked up a good used Knoll Generation for $30, an excellent used Steelcase Leap V2 for $85 and a used Steelcase Amia for free (cleaned cushions and removed, cleaned wheels - good as new). After a while you can identify the chairs you want by sight or using Google lens. Tip: search generic words like chair, PC chair, office chair

I'm about your size, 6'2" 175lbs and did a lot of research. I got the steelcase leap v1 highback and it's helped my lower back a ton. The high back doesn't bother my shoulders or back at all. It might last a lifetime too haha.

These chairs are cleaned and fixed prior to selling.
