Even still on a M1 Pro, I think I'll wait for an M7 Pro for the memory bandwidth over a base M6 chip... or am I missing something

If you're still on M1 Pro, the work you do will probably not need anything better, including "memory bandwidth".

Anything better is for people that will actually benefit with their more compute intensive work.

I mean, yeah. If you're not doing anything intensive or your time doesn't have much value, then it shouldn't really matter. The M1P is a perfectly good chip.

You're very clearly not doing anything crazy if you're still rocking an M1P. The M1P is like 1/3 the multi-code performance of an M5P, and even a regular 10-core M5 is like 60% more performance than your setup. So, if you've been sitting here thinking it's fine, I doubt you need even the M7 Pro.

If you're an average user, students, or just browsing the internet, check email, do homework or research papers, sure an M1. Even an $200 Chomebook also do.

But if you're a power user, Video editing, software developer, data analysts, Architects/designer, music producers, AI learning, then you might want a powerful machine, cuz time is money.

They said M1 not M1 Pro. Very different chips. That being said, M1 is still no slouch. Great for casual users. Standing the test of time! I still feel like the M1 Pro is solid for (some) power users.

Compared to?

A lean Linux build? sure.

If you are still on M1 Pro, I would get an Macbook Air with more ram! RAM is king now on this new era of AI. MB Air with 32GB is better than the MB Pro with 16GB now.
