I don't 100% remember the fix, but it was something like this. See if they have an app and install it.
Go to the home screen, instead of Android Auto, hit the home button on the unit, then pick something different, like Screen Mirroring. If you didn't find the app earlier, it will show a QR code to download their app. Then in the app menus it will then prompt you to apply an update. Once I updated, the unit has been solid.
These are similar fixes.

This wireless CarPlay and Android Auto screen is best at adding a big touchscreen and backup camera to older cars without a full stereo swap. The display pairs quickly, CarPlay and Android Auto generally work well, and the audio can run through AUX, Bluetooth, or FM transmission. Mounting options include suction cup or adhesive, but stability can be an issue in heat, and the camera image is often described as blurry or stretched. Restarting, disconnecting, and firmware quirks also show up, though updates or support can sometimes fix them.
Common Questions (5)
It can connect quickly and work well day to day, but some units have restart or disconnect issues every few minutes or about every 10 minutes. Firmware updates or a patch through the companion app can fix the problem on some units.
The camera works instantly in reverse, but the image is often described as blurry, stretched, or not very wide, so it is useful for basic backing-up rather than a crisp wide-angle view. Mounting the camera with a license-plate bracket can improve the view.
The included suction cup or adhesive mount can work, but it may shake on rough roads and can fail in direct summer sun. A stronger install uses 3M VHB tape, a cowl-mounted base, or a custom reinforced mount to keep the screen secure.
It supports multiple audio paths: AUX in or out, Bluetooth, and FM transmission to a programmed radio station. Older cars can also use a tape adapter, and some setups bypass the unit's audio path entirely by streaming through an existing Bluetooth AUX module.
Pairing and incoming calls work, but the screen may not provide a phone icon or a reliable way to start calls from the device UI. Navigation can still work normally, but some units appear to require extra Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi setup or may be limited by outdated firmware.

If you use the rear camera, add a stainless steel license plate bracket for a few bucks more to get the best view possible.
No drilling is necessary for a very solid installation.
Great, thanks for all the info.
I love saving money, but I'm thinking this may be an item I should buy that is custom made for my car. For a few hundred bucks more since I'm going to be using it daily and I don't want something in my car that looks like it was Macgyvered in. I have a 2010 BMW E93 convertible; if i buy the type of unit that replaces the ac controls and old radio, it's in an awkward and dangerous viewing position for gps. They make a unit that is like this one, a separate screen on top of the dash but it requires cutting a chunk out of the dash.
