This wireless CarPlay and Android Auto screen is best at adding a big touchscreen and backup camera to older cars without a full stereo swap. The display pairs quickly, CarPlay and Android Auto generally work well, and the audio can run through AUX, Bluetooth, or FM transmission. Mounting options include suction cup or adhesive, but stability can be an issue in heat, and the camera image is often described as blurry or stretched. Restarting, disconnecting, and firmware quirks also show up, though updates or support can sometimes fix them.

  • The CarPlay and Android Auto syncing experience can feel smooth once the connection is established.

  • The unit can offer multiple audio output paths, including AUX, Bluetooth, and FM transmitter broadcasting.

  • Firmware updates and app-based patches can resolve restarting or dropout problems on some models.

  • The device can connect quickly to a phone and start backup-camera playback immediately when reversing.

  • The backup camera image can be blurry, stretched, and affected by glare in sunny conditions.

  • The suction cup and adhesive mounting can fail in summer heat and the screen can fall off repeatedly.

  • The screen can lag, stutter, and feel resource-hungry during normal use.

  • The device may not support starting phone calls from the screen UI even when pairing and Apple Maps navigation work.

Use the mount that attaches to the cowl of the instrument panel. Buy 3M VHB (very high bond) automotive tape to secure it. Use a heat gun to mold the base of the mount to follow the contour of the spot on your cowl that you will use. Replace you cigar lighter with dedicated 5V USB port if you don't have one. Use AUX into your stereo head unit if you can. Tuck the wires into the gaps in the panel to keep them looking neat.

If you use the rear camera, add a stainless steel license plate bracket for a few bucks more to get the best view possible.

No drilling is necessary for a very solid installation.

Great, thanks for all the info.

I found a CD mount on Amazon for like 10-15 bucks and that has been great. All my mounting options with the standard equipment would both block my middle AC vents and fall off, both of which are because Texas sucks and it's hot lol. CD mount though means it basically is just covering up my old radio that it's outputting sound through. Love it.

I love saving money, but I'm thinking this may be an item I should buy that is custom made for my car. For a few hundred bucks more since I'm going to be using it daily and I don't want something in my car that looks like it was Macgyvered in. I have a 2010 BMW E93 convertible; if i buy the type of unit that replaces the ac controls and old radio, it's in an awkward and dangerous viewing position for gps. They make a unit that is like this one, a separate screen on top of the dash but it requires cutting a chunk out of the dash.

Been looking at these for my wife's 2016 Pathfinder and ended up ordering this. Do the more expensive ones have auto darkening or auto dark mode? This one just has a time frame you can pick. Seems kind of basic.

For portable backup camera like this, I assume I will have to connect wires to allow the reverse gear to trigger to back view on the camera, is that right? If so, how hard to do it myself? I have an old Toyota Camry. Thanks!

I do not own this model but i purchased a similar one from woot that was on SD about a month ago. It mounts via suction cup to the windshield and the mounting works well. this item list says suction cup so i would assume this can also be mounted the same way. However my unit isn't the best. IT works great when it works but every few minutes it will randomly restart. I have not found a solution for it yet and don't want to disassemble everything to return it...

My unit arrived yesterday and although all the screen is nice, there is no way to make phone calls right from the device itself. There is no phone icon anywhere and I don't see Google maps on mine but Apple Maps show. I have iPhone 14 Pro Max with latest iOS version which I updated last week. The pairing was seamless. I have not tried hooking up the camera yet as that is not the main purpose I ordered this. I already emailed the support for this company telling them that the firmware is from 2021. And they're telling me that that is the latest firmware. And they mentioned that I should connect the device to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to make phone calls which is BS as my phone is already connected that way. Apple Maps navigation works flawless by the way so I would not waste my time contacting them if my phone was unable to connect. I would start other troubleshooting steps first but since my phone correctly connected with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth I should be able to use it to start a phone call on the device. Incoming call came in no problem and I was able to push to answer and talk, but I'm not able to start a phone call from the screen itself. So it looks like this might be going back to Amazon unless they reply to me again and give me some meaningful instructions or I figure this out myself.

This is interesting. I think I read another review on Amazon that had some data/privacy concerns. Similar to what you're saying, they were asking questions as to why it required connecting a certain way or permissions. It does sound dumb for the screen to need a wifi connection to make calls with your phone. Literally every bluetooth-compatibile vehicle made in the last 10 years has the capability of accessing your phone records/control to make and receive calls with not direct wifi connection from the infotainment system. Really dumb

I bought a similar model a month ago, nice but it doesn't play YouTube videos. Does this play YouTube videos?

Wireless Android Auto relies on Bluetooth for initial handshaking and 5 GHz Wi-Fi Direct (or dual-band Wi-Fi) to stream high-resolution maps, audio, and the user interface.
