1TB for only $20 more (at $99) is a great deal. I think that's the sweet spot.

The refurbished PS4 Slim stands out as a low cost way to get into Sony's huge game library, with cheap used discs and Blu ray playback adding a lot of value. The 1TB model looks like the sweet spot, especially when it is only about $20 more than the 500GB version, and the console can also be modded with GoldHen on some older firmware. Best Buy shipping and returns reduce the risk versus marketplace buys. The main cautions are that these units are listed in Good condition, stock varies by location, and the base model may feel slow without an SSD.

  • The PS4 Slim 1TB can deliver strong entertainment value when the refurbished unit works properly with a working controller.

    gobigblue312g33kazoid

  • The PS4 library and remaster catalog can reduce the need for older PS2 or PS3 backwards-compatibility hardware.

    justye

  • Buying from Best Buy can lower purchase risk because the console ships and can be returned if problems appear.

    timaishu

  • Upgrading storage with an SSD can improve performance if the cheapest refurbished PS4 feels slow.

    HilariousCheetah281

  • The refurbished consoles are listed as 'Good' condition and availability can vary by location, which can limit what models are actually obtainable.

    theheaviestrock

  • The PS4 firmware on refurbished units may not be jailbreakable yet, which can affect modding plans.

    Sniper82

  • PS4 compatibility with an existing large PS3 library can be disappointing, with only a small portion of games playable.

    Stinktooth

  • PSVR resolution can be low enough to be noticeable for 3D Blu-ray viewing, which can reduce the experience for VR users.

It does but there's different versions for older consoles.

Great console. Sony really turned things around with the PS4. Great library, good price. It might be Sony's best or second best console after the PS2. One other thing that made this generation stand out was how much was remastered from the PS2 and PS3 era. With the PS3, unless you got the earlier, expensive backwards compatible models (I had one and got the notorious YLOD), you were often stuck never being able to play PS2 era games unless you had a PS2. PS4 generation really upped the remaster catalog making it almost pointless to have backwards compatibility or an old PS2/PS3 lying around for a lot of people. The only game that I wanted that I remember not being able to play was MGS4. I only regret I didn't play more when I was able to really enjoy playing guilt free more often.

Thanks, OP. Just bought the PlayStation 4 Slim 1TB, and came out to $102 (after using $5 GC I had lying around). Been wanting my own system for a while, as kids won't share the PS5.

With the cost of storage being so high, the slim is the way to go.

I almost agree. But the PSX will always be king to me.Along with Wipeout 2097

Nice! Ive been wanting a PS4 for awhile and have casually browsed marketplace and such. But the convenience of just getting one shipped and being able to return if there is a problem is a huge pro versus rolling the dice.

Genuinely a great deal if you want to get into games and not spend a lot, maybe tough out the next three years of insane prices. Hundreds of games available under $10 even, and possible to crack if you want to pirate I guess. it's not even dead yet - new games are still coming, though a lot less. It's even a good Blu-ray player and streaming box too.
