The difference is M6 model comes out in 4 months. M6 is 2nm, 12 cores, 170GB/s memory bandwidth. M5 is 3nm, 10 core, 153GB/s. M6 is big improvement, M7 will be mid.

Costs of components have skyrocketed.

Find me a well built windows laptop with the same speed for under $1100...

M6 is not a big improvement. You won't see those 2 extra cores doing anything in most tasks. Memory bandwidth gain less then 10% is not noticeable. Maybe for some ai tasks having double the neural accelerators will do something but those cases are rare. Resolution has nothing to do directly with performance

How did they rob people? Did they hold iPhones to their heads and force them to buy MacBooks? If you bight enough Apple stock over the years, your phones and laptops would essentially be free. Nobody robbed. A decent steak dinner used to be $25 until the greedy restaurant industry decided to rob entitled diners.
