Community Reviews
This 14.2 inch MacBook Pro pairs the M5 chip with 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage, and the standout is the Costco price at $1,349.99 with free shipping, far below Apple's $1,999. The deal also includes Costco's 90 day computer return window and a second year of warranty, with a two per member limit and stock that varies by warehouse. The main hesitation is the 16GB configuration, which feels tight for heavier multitasking, development, and memory hungry apps. For general use, though, the storage and Pro features make it a strong value at this price.
Common Questions (4)
For general use, 16GB can be enough for several years, including data analytics, app design, video encoding, and normal multitasking. Heavy workflows like Xcode with iOS Simulator, Android Studio with an emulator, lots of browser tabs, or Teams can pressure 16GB and may cause swapping or slowdowns.
The clearance price can be seen online, but the purchase may need to be completed in-store. Costco also lists free shipping on the item, and stock can vary by warehouse.
If stock holds, the price may drop further as clearance continues. The current $1,349.99 price is already far below Apple's $1,999 price and appears tied to the newer M6 launch.
Yes. It comes with Costco's 90-day return window on computers and a second year of warranty.

Looking to get a new Macbook but not sure which one I need (Macbook Pro w/ 16GB ram or would having Macbook Air w/ 24GB ram be better, etc).

Do you value the nicer screen/ports of the Pro? The Air is fanless if you prefer that and aren't doing heavy calculations/encoding etc.... If you are doing those then the fan is nice to have so it doesn't throttle.

For comparison, the 13" MacBook Air with an M5 processor and 1TB storage upgrade currently retails for $1600; the 14" MacBook Pro with the newly released M6 processor (comes with 1TB storage) retails for $2000.

What do you do? Data analytics, app design, local LLMs, video encoding, multiple huge excel documents? If none of those then 16 GB would likely serve you well for the next 4+ years. I do the above less LLMs on my 16 GB M2 Pro MacBook Pro without much issue on the RAM side (huge data sets I'm throwing on a server anyways)....

I'm a Software Engineer so sometimes regular development + I also do mobile app development (Xcode, Android Studio) while also utilizing different AI tools. I would definitely want to be able to run both Xcode w/ IOS Simulator + Android Studio w/ Android Emulator + other things without it lagging, being choppy, or having issues.
Most of the dev work I've done the past several months were work-related so it was done on my work 16 inch Macbook Pro which is a pretty high spec one from 2 years ago.
