Lenovo's Legion Tab Gen 5 is a compact Android gaming tablet with a sharp 8.8 inch 3K 165Hz display, strong Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 performance, and solid pen support. The included G9 case and lighter body make it feel more like a convertible gaming tablet, and the newer chip and Adreno 840 graphics are framed as a meaningful step up for emulation and Android games. The main knocks are the lack of OLED, no memory card slot, and concerns about Lenovo's update history. At $598.49, it still feels pricey, with some waiting for a drop closer to $500.

  • Tablet buyers who care about a high-refresh display for everyday use, because the 165Hz screen is a stronger fit than 60Hz alternatives.

  • People who want a small tablet with enough storage for local media and apps, because it includes a memory card slot for expansion.

  • Android tablet buyers who want stronger performance than last year's model, because the newer chip is described as faster and more efficient with a meaningful GPU gain.

  • Mobile gamers who want a compact Android tablet for console and PC emulation, because the faster chip and Adreno 840 GPU are described as well suited to gaming and emulation.

  • Shoppers who want a tablet that feels like a clear value at this price, because $598 is still described as too expensive and more interest is expected under $500.

  • People who need expandable storage without relying on a memory card slot, because this model is called out as lacking one.

  • Buyers who expect long software support, because the OS upgrades stop at Android 17 and security updates end in about three and a half years.

  • People who want a tablet for broad game compatibility, because last year's model was described as having bloatware and trouble loading some games.

Yeah unfortunately I bought last years model for a discount and my biggest problem was barely got updates, a lot of bloatware, and couldn't even play some games that I normally could on less powered devices. Perfect example was I could download fortnite but it would get stuck on the loading screen, however it could play COD just fine. If Google made a good new tablet I would recommend that because I did love the pixel tablet, however now I can only recommend Samsung since they're the only ones trying doing it the right way with updates.
Last year's "8 gen 4" snapdragon was a major architectural change compared to the previous 3 years so a lot of games and emulators saw compatibility issues as the new gen 4 chip needed all new driver support.Basically, I don't think it was a Lenovo problem if I had to guess.

iPad hands down. Who is paying 600 for a random Lenovo tablet?
I like apple but 60hz on a $800 tablet is so stupid. Also 128gb base storage. The 8 elite 5 is also better than the a20. If apple used the m5 chip and 120hz it would be a better value .

Get the AYN portal 3, same CPU, 7" inches screen with built in fan and controller, and only $400
It's actually not. This is the 8 elite 5 with a faster more efficient processor and the 840 GPU which is also faster. It's about 20% faster than a Portal 3 and more power efficient. Although cooling might split the difference on a Portal 3!

Edit: Some of these comments saying get an iPad don't seem to understand what this device is. This is a gaming tablet and is ideal for console and PC emulation in addition to Android gaming. It's one area where Apple just can't compete.

no the a20 pro is better than this chip.

Better than the elite gen 6 extreme as well when using the same wattage. Not to mention better upscaling and rt.

A20 pro is on a different level compared to this chip

levono glass qualit ly is trash! i bought 2 idea pro gen 2 last sale. one of them has its glass broken while getting alot of heat
so... these are two completely different products... on is super high end and the other is mid end (on the higher side). And who broke your screen... or was it spontaneous (and we can call that a miracle)

you buy the NEWEST cpu and you will need to wait until the drivers catch up.

To me this is the tablet to buy... but no mico sd slot. Same CPU, better hardware, MUCH better cooling and better screen. And a lot less bloatware.

But I am not sure if it will get cheaper... we can only hope. While demand in the USA is small... world demand is very high.

A20 Pro is better. Newer chip process, better efficiency, better performance, however their audiences are different.
I am also on Apple ecosystem, but iPadOS has many more limitations regarding how you can use the tablet like sideloading apps and JIT without workarounds, even custom firmwares, which is the main idea of the Lenovo (and other Android ones) tablets if aiming emulations.
