Kirkland Signature grass fed butter is a creamy, well melting salted butter that stands out for its value at $8.99 for four 8 ounce packs. The flavor is described as less salty than Kerrygold, with a grassy, slightly cheesy profile, and the current label shows product of Ireland rather than New Zealand. The salt makes it less ideal for ghee and can leave more waste than unsalted butter. It is a solid everyday butter if you want a milder grass fed option.

  • Home cooks who want a creamy butter for melting into rice, soups, or stews, because it melts very well and stays smooth.

  • Shoppers who prefer a milder salted butter, because it is less salty than Kerrygold while still tasting creamy.

  • Buyers who use butter regularly and want a solid everyday value, because it is described as really good and a great deal at this price.

  • People who like a cheesy, grassy butter profile, because the flavor is described that way and the product is still considered good.

  • People making ghee, because salted butter is a poor choice and can leave more waste than unsalted.

  • Cooks who want an unsalted butter for morning fat coffee or similar recipes, because this version is salted.

  • Shoppers chasing Kerrygold's stronger flavor, because this butter is milder and not as salty.

  • Anyone who needs a butter with tablespoon markings on the wrapper, because the packaging no longer includes them.

Has anyone made Ghee with this? I tried Kerry gold, it was fine.
I like organic valley a lot but they are expensive and Costco doesn't sell them.

This is from New Zealand and Kerrygold is Irish... The Kirkland butter has a certain cheesy and grassy flavor, but I find I prefer the different profile of Kerrygold.

It's salted. Don't make ghee with salted butter. That being said, this is good butter, although I don't think it's any better than Kerrygold.

Even though the salt will settle at the bottom, there will be lots of wastage compared to unsalted. Wish the Kirkland Irish came in unsalted.

Heads up, they recently changed this product from the New Zealand-sourced butter. It is now from Ireland, but it's not Kerrygold. It's produced by Tirlán. Packaging has been tweaked as well (different shape, no more tablespoon markings on the wrapper).

All butter at my Costco is salted. It is mind-blowing. Is it that hard to add salt if you need it in a recipe? Next will be salted olive oil…

Yeah, I guess there must be a lot more demand for salted butter than unsalted. I do use the salted butter to add to rice or soups and stews, but I need unsalted for my morning protein-fat-bombs (a.k.a. "bulletproof coffee").

You're better off having avocado toast.

As an avid kerrygold salted butter fan and someone who finally gave this a shot, this is not as salty as kerrygold but is still creamy and melts very well. I would say this has about half the amount of salt kerry gold has by taste alone.

As an avid kerrygold fan this butter is not as salty, but still has a good creaminess and melt to it. Highly recommend for the price, but if you're looking for that flavor bomb just stick with kerrygold.
