Worth it just to save yourself any potential embarrassment when having guests over for a meal hot off the grill. Even more useful if you have a propane smoker and don't want it running out while you are not there to tend to the smoker for hours on end.

Propane inside a tank exists as a liquid at the bottom and a gas (vapor) at the top. As long as liquid propane remains inside, the vapor pressure stays roughly the same regardless of whether the tank is 80% full or 20% full. This means all propane gauges are pretty worthless.

This, plus also very subjective. "Cold Day, Cool Day, Hot Day" How about some actual temp ranges? All it will do is let you know when it is empty or nearly empty.

Weighing it is far more accurate.

Good thing I read the comments before purchasing. I'll just keep on doing the guessing game with tanks.

the only easy way i've used to gauge propane level is to microwave a cup of water (not to boiling), and the pour the hot water down the side of the tank. After doing so, feel for the transition between the warm aluminum portion vs the section that is holding propane liquid. that transition between the warm top side holding air/gas and the cooler bottom side holding liquid propane is where your level is. It's not perfect, but it can give you a general idea if you're 25% full or 75% full

Should always have an extra full tank anyway. So having a gauge is pointless. Tank runs out, put on the new one.
