How does this compare to the 199 free tool vaccum?

Doh, was gifted the lower tier version of this. It's ok. This one is more quiet it seems.

Owned this particular model for a few years . Love it . It's a little heavy compared to a reg stick though

I have a Dyson V8 that's maybe possibly 10 years old. I've replaced batteries, maintain the filters, clean the thing thoroughly every 6 months or so. It's still getting a bit long in the tooth. Would I see an improvement with this Ryobi? Or is comparing a Ryobi vac to a Dyson like comparing a Kia to a Ferrari?

This specific model has 2 roller heads and slightly more powerful motor. At full power it will suck down a 4.0 battery, so keep your supply ready. The youtube reviews had messy stuff layed out on short pile carpet and on hardwood floors, It picked up everything just fine. The 2 roller heads and slightly more powerful motor are the main difference between this and lower models. for $179 thats not bad at all. I have a wired Dyson upright vacuum now and it works fine, but I always have to walk back and find a closer wall outlet. Not having to plug in would be nice.

Stick with the Dyson unless Ryobi has made some vast improvements on this model

The V8 is good. I have a bunch of Ryobi batteries so I like using the various Ryobi vacuums.

But I'd never want to skip vacuuming with a corded vacuum. Corded vacuums are awesome.

I agree with the corded vacuum sentiment, though only on carpet. For hard surfaces, a battery-powered vac like the Dyson V8 is sufficient. I'll use the Dyson V8 on stairs, but for any other carpeted areas, corded works so much better.

I went from a stick V8 to the older model of the ryobi stick vacuum -- while the suction is probably about 70% of the dyson, the tube is a few mm larger, so I have less things that get stuck (looking at you, Bandaid wrappers). Things do get stuck sometimes, but my brain now screams "HAHA, ok, yeah I deserved that one." instead of "Really, REALLY, you're gonna clog on THAT?".

I have a V7. When the current Amazon battery dies, you can buy a battery pack holder for Ryobi, Milwaukee, and DeWalt batteries (there may be others). I am just gonna get the MIL version and use those batteries. Note: The Ryobi battery adapter is a little wonky cause of the battery stem vs. MIL and DeWalt.

The reason I usually stick to brand name products for larger purchases is that I can get parts for them and keep them for decades instead of years. Your Dyson is just getting started.

They Ryobi is similar in function and purpose. You're unlikely to get $180 more in value from the Ryobi. The difference in how clean things are after you vacuum is overwhelmed by fifteen minutes of life happening after you finish.

Kia vs. Ferrari? I don't even see Ferrari as desirable, so this comparison doesn't make sense to me. Ferrari are barely functional as automobiles in every context other than racing and showing off wealth.

This conversion kit might help some of you folks looking into this vacuum... If you have a Dyson and also already have Ryobi batteries, you should give this thing a try: https://a.co/d/0cJ4HKkb. They have different ones also for different battery platforms. I can leave my v8 on max with a 6ah battery for like 5x the duration that I could with the original battery. I don't know if this messes with the Dyson in any way but honestly I got tired of having to recharge the original battery constantly so I'm happy with the setup. Also disclaimer with these conversion kits, if you use too small of a battery (like below 4ah) the Dyson wont run on the max setting at all.
