If AliExpress has some 9950X3Ds on sale below $400, I would be highly interested in those instead.

I had to take a double take because I thought the 9950X3D was on sale. I'd swap out my 9800X3D if that were the case.

Agreed, indeed 👍🏾. I'd swap out my 9900X in a heartbeat if that were the case.

Isn't 9900X3D terrible for gaming?

Why do you say you'd replace it? I know it has more cores but what use case of yours benefits from it greatly? For gaming, 9800 works better since it's a single chiplet. For programming, yes you could utilize it and potentially speed things up. Genuinely asking since I own the 9800x3d too.

Because the marketing number is higher!!!! 9950 = 150 more!!!! How hard is this to understand?

It's essentially a 6 core CPU for gaming since the die is split 6/6 and only half has the cache.

I actually own both CPU's, and I like the additional headroom of the 9950X3D. Additionally, if it's $300-$400 to upgrade when the newer CPU's launch, it'll be a stop gap for me until I decide to upgrade to AM6. I did the same thing last generation with the 5950X. I originally purchased the 5800X, and I bought the 5950X when it was $250-$300. I eventually sold the 5800X and 5950X after upgrading to the 9800X3D and 9950X3D. Even if I didn't sell the 9800X3D, I could give it to my wife or one of my friends who desperately needs a CPU upgrade.

The 9800X3D/9850X3D are perfect for gaming only rigs, but if you want to tap into performance that'll take advantage of the additional cores along with excellent gaming prowess, you'll want the 9950X3D or 9950X3D2.

Agreed the 9950X3D is a basically at max a side grade and possibly a down grade for gaming. An ok upgrade for non gaming tasks.
The only pure upgrade albeit small is the 9850X3D. Single chip-let benefits for gaming and higher clock speeds.

It is, actually. You have a 6-core gaming CPU.

If you have no cpu-intensive workflows, there isn't much reason to go to a 9950X3D from a 7800X3d or 9800X3D. It does make sense for people who stress their CPU, however.
