This refurbished Acer Predator Helios Neo AI 16S stands out for its 16 inch QHD plus OLED 240 hertz display and strong laptop gaming performance. The screen is described as a real differentiator, and the system handles games well, though the newest demanding titles may not reach max settings. Its thin build keeps it portable, but that also brings lower GPU power than thicker RTX 5070 Ti laptops, more heat, and shorter battery life. Reliability concerns include random reboots, black screens, and reports of early keyboard failure, so a thorough stress test matters.

  • The laptop can play games well and handle media use when it does not reboot.

    brad_headleyWagnbat

  • The OLED display stands out as a real differentiator for gaming laptops at this price point.

    brad_headley

  • The GPU performance can still feel top-of-the-line for a laptop in day-to-day use.

    Commando102

  • Battery life can suffer because the 240Hz refresh rate setting increases power draw.

    psp1040BoastfulSardine717

  • The thin design can limit sustained performance because the GPU power is capped and throttles sooner under heavy loads.

    okstuvBoastfulSardine717

  • Recurring reboots and black screens can occur during gaming, streaming, or media playback on similar Acer 16 Neo S refurb units.

    eriickmejiaWagnbat

  • Refurb units can show latent hardware problems that only appear under sustained runtime, including random blue screens.

This seems like a pretty well spec'd laptop under current prices today. I know it's a refurb but anyone know this models flaws or drawbacks?

It's a somewhat thin laptop with good build quality just don't expect good battery life or top of the line performance

Portable but bring your power brick

I would think it would have pretty good performance. Just not 5080 or 5090 performance?

Cheap because Acer build quality and as a thin laptop, severely underperforms other mobile 5070ti

This is considered pretty top of the line performance for a laptop. I have this laptop and it's good

These are not good, my friend had to return his unit cause it kept rebooting out of nowhere. In previous posts here in SD, multiple people were reporting The same issue, just be aware of that.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe this has display refresh rate set at 240Hz thus battery life suffers.

Agreed. I just read some reviews, user experiences and benchmarks... It will cap the GPU total watts (115w instead of 140w) compared to full thickness laptops like HP Omen or Asus Rog, and thermal throttling will set in sooner too in heavy tasks.

Expect 3dmark time spy torture test scores 8-10% lower than full thickness laptops.

But that said, I'm tempted to give it a try at this price.

I bought this exact same laptop in January from Best Buy for $1,152 (also refurbished). I think I also got like $70 of Best Buy rewards. I absolutely love it. The screen is beautiful and a real differentiator vs. other gaming laptops at this price point. It plays everything really well. You may not be able to play the newest games with the most demanding graphics at max settings, but I think everything looks amazing, including newer games. It does get very hot (as most gaming laptops do), just a heads up.

I waited months for a really good deal on a laptop with a 5070ti, so that $1,152 was a real bargain. Plus memory & DRAM prices were a lot lower then. But still.. $1,620 sounds a bit high. Maybe will get cheaper in the next few months?

I just need a computer to play Fortnite and The Sims 4. I don't care about hardcore gaming.

Buyer beware..... Yeah the price for this hardware is about right, but it's used. And you don't know and will never know if this was bought used then refurbished for resale,,,, OR, if it was bought in a lot of product returns! If used, then fine, if returned, then maybe not so fine. Just because a unit powers up and works for 5 minutes does not mean all is good. I grabbed one of these a couple generations ago, the deal was too good to pass up and it was a "factory refurbished" item. It worked great for 3 months of occasion use. But once I began to use it 24/7 it began just randomly blue screening. And NO, it's not the OS! This thing has a hardware problem that only shows up with run time.

So get this, it's a good price, but then stress test it for real to make sure you've got a good one. Crank it right up to 11 using any stress testing software, put it in a spare room and let it run for a couple "days". If it's still working fine after 48 hrs then you've got as good one. The alternative if far more costly then 48 hrs of patiently waiting.

This is the 16S not the 16. The S has an OLED screen but the 5070ti doesn't get as much power as the regular neo.

OP has it listed as the NEW which isn't correct. Just be aware

Very deceptive that they label both the laptop and desktop graphics card the same...
They know what they're doing...
Desktop version is 35 to 65% more powerful.
