This OmniDesk is a compact Ryzen 7 8700G desktop that looks strongest as an office, media, and light gaming machine. The 8700G and integrated graphics are described as capable of low end Minecraft, many DX12 games, and even 2K 60 fps in some titles, with the 65 watt power supply giving it a bit more headroom than similar laptop based systems. The main limits are 16GB of RAM, which feels tight for local AI, and a case and power setup that may be hard to upgrade. It is a small, capable box, but not a great fit for heavy local AI or easy expansion.

  • Office workers who want a compact desktop for documents and media, because it has enough memory for everyday tasks and light gaming.

  • Gamers who want a small desktop for mainstream 2K play, because the 8700G can run DX12 games well and target 60 fps.

  • Casual gamers playing older or lighter titles, because the Ryzen 7 8700G can handle low-end Minecraft and similar games.

  • Local AI hobbyists running models on system memory, because 16GB is too little and CPU-only AI runs very slowly.

  • Upgraders who expect easy power-supply swaps, because the motherboard uses proprietary connections that make PSU replacement challenging.

  • Builders who want a roomy expansion platform, because it appears to have few expansion ports and may need another RAM stick.

Would this be good enough to use for producing audio books. I have a super old pc that isnt running anymore and need something to help me record and produce audio.
this computer is probably much more powerful than your old one. to be sure that it's powerful enough, though, you'd have to look up the system requirements provided by the makers of any software and peripherals you use for recording.

regarding the quality of recorded sound, as long as your mic (or other recording hardware connecting directly to the computer) is digital then it should sound just like the old computer. for example, if your microphone connects via USB port, it bypasses the computer's sound card and you don't have to consider whether the sound card is good enough.

He meant that he didn't post the great deal he got to Slickdeals because there was only 1 in stock. If there were loads in stock, he would have shared the deal details here.

Somebody else would have to chime in on this one in particular, but my experience with HP prebuilts is that they have very weak power supplies and they are proprietary PSUs and usually have custom connections to the motherboard too.

thanks, yeah, I'm seeing something like 200-ish watts and more importantly, exactly what you said: proprietary MB connections making a PSU replacement, umm, challenging.I'd still probably try hacking it if I could find a cheap one.ultimate goal is a super small 3D printed case with 32GB of memory, an x3d processor, and my 5070ti... but prices suck

Yeah, I have a couple of systems super super old in dire need of being updated, but prices were in the gutter during covid (mostly PSUs & certainly GPUs), but now we have insane prices on SSDs and DDR (which effects GPUs as well). I'm just going to say fnck it a while longer - I just grabbed another guitar to tinker with LOL. But honestly what a lot of people do with systems like this is usually slap a low powered GPU in like a 3050 which doesn't require a power connector. Sometimes you can use a card which is in the next teir up with molex to 6-pin adapters (cards that are just a little over 100w) such as RX 6500XT or a rtx4060. Doesn't sound like you're interested in a light gaming machine, but just throwing it out there because these questions always pop up in these threads. These prices really have killed PC gaming. 🤷

the $566 one popped up for a bit so I grabbed it. still hoping the $488 one reappears so I can cancel the first.

looks like some have wired up a standard ATX PSU: https://youtu.be/fXmLxYBcAl4

Wish me luck...

Well let us know what you get, but look up the 3 star review named "Not bad for now, possibly a dud for longer term" on BB. This thing seems like it has no expansion ports whatsoever, limited to 65w, and desperately needs another stick of RAM. Probably better off with a mini pc, at least most of those have an extra nvme slot. 🤷
