This OmniDesk is a compact Ryzen 7 8700G desktop that looks strongest for office work, media, light gaming, and general everyday use. The 8700G and its integrated graphics are described as capable of low end Minecraft, many DX12 games, and even 2K 60 fps in some titles, with the 65 watt power supply giving it a bit more headroom than similar mini PCs. The main limits are 16GB of memory, which is thin for local AI, and a case and power setup that may be awkward to upgrade. Open box wear on the SSD also showed up in one unit, so it suits buyers who want a small, capable machine more than a highly expandable one.

  • The Ryzen 7 8700G can run DX12 games smoothly at around 2K 60fps in this class of desktop.

  • The 65W PSU design can provide a bit more power than many 45W laptop-style systems with similar architecture.

  • USB microphones can bypass the computer's sound card, which helps recorded audio match expectations when using digital mics.

  • An open-box unit reportedly showed no media or data integrity errors and no error log entries despite NVMe wear.

  • The 16GB unified memory setup can be a poor fit for local AI workloads that need more RAM or VRAM.

  • HP prebuilts reportedly use proprietary power supplies and custom motherboard connections, which can complicate PSU replacement.

  • The case heatsink may cause the 8700G to hit 95°C thermal throttling during heavier use.

  • An open-box unit reportedly appeared to be a 2024 store demo with measurable NVMe endurance wear and unsafe shutdowns.

Would this be good enough to use for producing audio books. I have a super old pc that isnt running anymore and need something to help me record and produce audio.
this computer is probably much more powerful than your old one. to be sure that it's powerful enough, though, you'd have to look up the system requirements provided by the makers of any software and peripherals you use for recording.

regarding the quality of recorded sound, as long as your mic (or other recording hardware connecting directly to the computer) is digital then it should sound just like the old computer. for example, if your microphone connects via USB port, it bypasses the computer's sound card and you don't have to consider whether the sound card is good enough.

Are u trying to sell here? What is the meaning on pass it on?
He meant that he didn't post the great deal he got to Slickdeals because there was only 1 in stock. If there were loads in stock, he would have shared the deal details here.

Somebody else would have to chime in on this one in particular, but my experience with HP prebuilts is that they have very weak power supplies and they are proprietary PSUs and usually have custom connections to the motherboard too.

thanks, yeah, I'm seeing something like 200-ish watts and more importantly, exactly what you said: proprietary MB connections making a PSU replacement, umm, challenging.I'd still probably try hacking it if I could find a cheap one.ultimate goal is a super small 3D printed case with 32GB of memory, an x3d processor, and my 5070ti... but prices suck

Yeah, I have a couple of systems super super old in dire need of being updated, but prices were in the gutter during covid (mostly PSUs & certainly GPUs), but now we have insane prices on SSDs and DDR (which effects GPUs as well). I'm just going to say fnck it a while longer - I just grabbed another guitar to tinker with LOL. But honestly what a lot of people do with systems like this is usually slap a low powered GPU in like a 3050 which doesn't require a power connector. Sometimes you can use a card which is in the next teir up with molex to 6-pin adapters (cards that are just a little over 100w) such as RX 6500XT or a rtx4060. Doesn't sound like you're interested in a light gaming machine, but just throwing it out there because these questions always pop up in these threads. These prices really have killed PC gaming. 🤷

the $566 one popped up for a bit so I grabbed it. still hoping the $488 one reappears so I can cancel the first.

looks like some have wired up a standard ATX PSU: https://youtu.be/fXmLxYBcAl4

Wish me luck...

Well let us know what you get, but look up the 3 star review named "Not bad for now, possibly a dud for longer term" on BB. This thing seems like it has no expansion ports whatsoever, limited to 65w, and desperately needs another stick of RAM. Probably better off with a mini pc, at least most of those have an extra nvme slot. 🤷

Anyone notice the prices of compute going down slightly fishing for normal price or maybe more since AI data centers going bankrupt.

Stonk market crash is good for lower compute prices we all welcome it

Picked up one of these 2 weeks ago, only one existed I could see in stock so I didn't pass it on here. HP - OmniDesk Desktop - AMD Ryzen 7 8700G 2024 - 16GB DDR5 Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 - 1TB SSD - Gray Wood$352.99 It's a great little machine for the price and guts inside. although I swapped the single 16gb to dual 8gb I had laying around to feed the cpu/igpu better. The 3050 will be rehoused elsewhere and this 8700g will be fine for low-end Minecraft and stuff like that.
You got that PC for $352.99

No I'm not selling anything, I didn't pass it on, meaning I didn't create a post about it and let other slickdealers know since it was a one off and I figured I got lucky. The thing I got was a 2024 model likely a store demo unit? It's the only thing I can think of that explains the wear on the nvme SSD Samsung MZVL81T0HELB-00BH1Power-on hours 8,743 hours (364 days)Power cycles 2,088Total host writes 58,874 GB (58.9 TB)Total host reads 22,303 GBUnsafe shutdowns 44Remaining enduranceMedia/data integrity errors 0Error information log entries 0I have gotten in the habit of seeing what pops for open box at nearby bestbuy stores and came across it.

This system should play all AAA games. Saying it is fine for Minecraft makes it sound like it can not run aaa games which it can.
Yes I agree it can. To further help it along I took out the single 16gb stick and used 2 8gb ones to let it use dual channels for the 780. It ran Fortnite plenty fast on APU alone. This is going to a kid whose online gaming currently consists of playing Minecraft on a local server setup as a safe place for her and close family. 1 kid will get this and another will get a ddr4 intel build. I look forward to swapping the guts out into a case they pick and lights and fans and crap. This is the foot in the door and then we get bigger and better from here if the interest is there. (Re-)Adding in the 3050 or a 1660ti is the next step if the interest is there to keep this AMD and the other Intel build on level playing field so the cousins can both figure out their builds.
