Bringing down the tone of the thread for a sec...

Just got back from the crematorium. The owner offered a tour. We spent over 45 minutes there and it was really interesting. He explained a lot of the behind the scenes things and how he got into the business. The kids and I asked several questions and he answered everything.

Picked up the oldest son (15 year old stepson). He didn't want to go back for the tour. He is a drama queen. Even his mom says so.

It's going to be a long weekend.

Comfort I have a drama queen myself. My middle one, Jamie.

I just hate thinking that I'll have to go through what TS is going through 3, maybe 4 more times in my lifetime... or forgo the (known) happiness of having pets.
I just had to put mine to sleep last week. He was a 14 yr old yorkie and my sisters dog ( she passed away 13 years ago). It was honestly one of the hardest things I had to go through. I always thought the day would come and he'd just die in his sleep. But it didn't work out that way. Frown
I am still heart-broken about it, not just because of losing him, but the fact it was my sisters dog.
One of my first thoughts was why would people get another dog after that. I could never go through that pain again. But some people do it, over and over again. Dontknow

He did bring us a lot of happiness and joy in the last 13 years, but the heartache is way too much for me to ever handle ever again. I liked him more then some humans I knew..

I don't know how you guys even went there. I could never. My dog is getting shipped back to me next week sometime, UPS. I actually had to have them deliver to my address, because if I sent him back to the Vets then DF would be the UPS driver and the dog would be in his truck all day...

At least I'm an adult, I can't imagine how kids handle it. Comfort

I guess I'm having a hard time empathizing with you guys... animals are for watch, hunting or eating. I've had pets before, and I really enjoyed having them, but ultimately, they were a source of entertainment. Now that I have 2 little kids, they're my new pets laugh out loud

In my case, like I said it was my sisters dog which makes it a lot harder. I never understood people and their pets until I had one. You'd be surprised how close you can become to them. I liked my dog more then a lot of humans I knew. Seriously..laugh out loud

If you eat dog on the other hand..Sick I always thought the whole "asian people eat dogs" thing was a myth/stereotype..EEK!
It's a cultural thing though, my fiance's parents are from Greece and feel the same way about pets. I can understand people not feeling that way about them, and thats cool with me. But omg, his parents pissed me off with the way they said it though. It's one thing to feel different, It's another to laugh at someone right after they had to put their pet to sleep. Don't even get me started on that..Nono2

I mean I can't stand cats, but I wouldn't laugh or disrespect someone who just lost their cat. It's just shitty. People have feelings regardless of how you feel about it, KWIM.

And I don't mean you as in you...just general people. I'm still bitter at the in-laws.Annoyed

As far as the adult thing, it's on my license....other then that I have no proof..laugh out loud

well, as for the whole asians eating dog thing, yea, a very few do. Probably the same percentage of white southern hicks who eat opossums, gators, or other crap I see on Bizzare Foods.

and for me to be a little oblivious to pet-love... it's nothing to do with my culture and more to do with me personally. My dad loves animals. So do my sisters. My dad grew up on a farm in Korea and he learned to love and respect animals. My sisters are just girls... I'd have more fun shooting things at animals Dontknow

The cremation guy would have delivered Buddy to our house, but I wanted to try to shield my DW as much as possible. I didn't want her here when we got home with him.

We also had a bronze paw done. They take a cast of his paw and create a replica in epoxy or something and then bronze it.

I did find the whole place interesting, and I think it helped the 2 younger kids to see 'the process'. DS9 asked him about other animals he's done and he was happy to talk to him about it. He said he'd cremated birds, lizards, a squirrel, even a goldfish (please no jokes). He said some folks prearrange things and he has a 14' python prearranged. That will be his first snake. He talked about making a cast for a turtle (DS9 is really big in turtles and iguanas).

Wow thats really sweet of them to do that for the kids. I guess knowing more about it makes it somewhat more comforting to them. Seems like a nice guy.

Our vet made us a paw print and mailed it to me, I had no clue they were going to do that. It was something I'll never forget. I plan on doing something like that bronzing thing you mentioned, so I can put one down the cemetery on my sis's stone.Smilie

Jenni threader mommies of somewhat older kids, need some advice. The kid had high fever Monday and was throwing up. Took him in Tuesday and was told he had strep. The dr (not his normal dr because he's on vacation all week) explained the throwing up away by saying it had something to do with his gag reflex and irritation in his throat. She gave him Amoxicillin.

It's now Friday and the sore throat is completely gone, but the fever has been at 104 since Monday.
Even with Motrin/Tylenol, the fever goes down for about an hour then right back up.

Now he's congested (very badly), sleeping almost all day and night and has eaten maybe 5 bites of food since Monday. He is drinking water/juice without any problems and he's no longer throwing up (though I'm not sure if this is because he has literally no food in his system or if he's just over that part of this).

I'm worried that his fever shouldn't be so high for so long when he shouldn't be fighting anything else off after taking Amoxicillin. Are the symptoms above normal for a cold? If not, what? The reason I didn't take him in before this is because I wanted to give the meds a chance to work. It's been enough time, imo.

Yes, I'm following lounge protocol by asking you guys before going to the ER. I'd like to wait until Monday to go to the doctor, but these symptoms are worrying me. Any advice? Frown

I'd take him back to the dr. If he's not any better (except for the throat and throwing up) and isn't eating. It can't hurt to carry him back, and I would think the temp would be gone by now.
