The toll for Port Authority Carpool customers is $2 per vehicle at all hours.

You must have an E-ZPass account and you must register for the Port Authority Carpool Discount Plan.

The Port Authority of NY&NJ has an excellent plan for carpool driver with EZPass:
If you have 3 Humans (babies, kids, teens, adults, old people or even dead people probably), you may cross into NY for only $2 at a staffed Cash/EZPass Toll Booth

BE AWARE THAT WAITING IN TRAFFIC FOR THE CASH LANE MAY COST YOU MORE THAN $6 In GASOLINE, TIME WASTED, WIFE/GIRLFREIND WHINING OR KIDS ASKING "are we there yet????"

The system of tolling from NJ towards NY consists of 3 different modes:
Ezpass ($8 normally,$6 off-peak)
Ezpass Carpool Express/XBL (Exclusive Bus Lane) (Lincoln Tunnel Center Tube AM Only) ($8, time discount)
Cash/EZPass ($8 Cash/EZPass, $6 EZPASS off-peak or $2 when you shout CARPOOL! when passing the staffed toll collector if you have an EZPass WITH the PANYNJ Carpool Option ENABLED)

Since there are several different scenarios for savings with a Carpool, let me divide them into two sections:

1: You and your buddies are driving NY-Bound at the Lincoln Tunnel during peak morning hours.

Here you have two options: The dedicated EZPASS Carpool Tunnel at full price ($8) OR The regular cash lane, paying only $2.

All other crossings/times: Pay $2 at any lane displaying the signage "CASH / EZPASS"
--------------------------------------
In most cases, you WILL get the carpool rate with only 2 people.

Since the LIE HOV Lane only requires 2+, it will fly.

In addition, once the carpool key is pressed on the toll collectors keyboard, it cannot be revoked.

Also, most toll collectors dont even look up when you roll past and say CARPOOL! loudly as you past....they don't usually give you a response, so just slow down, shout out and driving onward to NY, you will get the discount and they don't care honestly if you had a full clown car or not.

Lastly, there are few if any police at the individual toll booths, unlike MTA crossings. (The PANYNJ allows you to pass without paying, a fine is mailed to you-- the MTA police stop you and force you to pay the toll on the spot, thus they are stationed at the booths)

There are NO carpool plans for any MTA

This is an awesome deal, since the toll is normally $8 (a ripoff in itself).

This only applies for Port Authority owned tunnels/bridges (George Washing Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, Goethals Bridge, Outer Bridge Crossing) . Bridges like Verazzano that are owned by the corrupted MTA do not apply.
