Hey guys, usually I don't post on here, so I am a newbie. I go to the LA Fitness on Lake Success, NY. It is one of their 'Elite' locations.
I originally signed up for $100 down and $40 a month (2 other people joined with me and we all split the $100 initiation fee).
I recently told them that I am canceling 'for financial reasons'. Mainly because I was hoping they would send me a better deal or an offer. And because one way or another, they try to get money from you constantly. I have to keep a close tab on my bank statements because they have these random fees for some reason that they usually don't even inform you about.
Anyways, after I sent in a notice to cancel my membership 'for financial reasons', after a few days, I got this email:
LA Fitness is making it easy to come back to our club and stay in shape!

I think that sounds pretty good to me. I may end up 'restarting' my membership with this new offer.
If you already have a membership at an LA Fitness, try canceling it and see if you get an offer like this. You may also try and talk to someone there and mention that you are thinking about leaving because of financial reason, they may negotiate with you and 'restart' your membership.
Again, I don't know if this would work for everyone. But worth a shot. Usually, people are paying $50+ a month, this can save you over $20 each month. GOOD LUCK!

for those that are not committed to 3 years.. if you quit they'll give you a prorated refund. valid for multi club use.
But def. worth a try, especially if you don't go to an Elite LA Fitness location. I remember I went there to join up few months back and the guy talking to me about their memberships was really stingy. He offered me $50 initiation fee with $50 a month. Then I told him that I can get a better deal at my local gym, of course, they didn't have a basketball court, pool, or a hot tub.. but regardless, I told him I just need weights.. machines, and cardio machines. But after I told him how I can get a better rate at a local gym, he goes, well.. the local gym doesn't have 100 cardio machines and all this equipment. And I kindda got mad after that and clearly told him, I am not going to be on 100 machines at the same time.. so what good is that to me.. personally? So I left, and called in instead and spoke to someone and he gave me a better deal. Before leaving, I told him, I was going to bring in 3 additional people to join with me, but he still wouldn't go down on price.
Its all about negotiation at LA Fitness.

I've been to 3 separate ones (Signature members can use any location) cause of travel, including 2 Signature clubs, and they're all similar. It's dumb to exclude paying members IMO. Some are just newer than others.

Then later in winter, it got too cold to run outside and I need to loose weight. =) So I did a little research, their price are everywhere, at least in my area. Some people even pay 20 bucks a month. They say the trick is to go in near the end of the month and ask for a lower rate.
So I went in the next day, mentioned about my company and I think the sales person played with me a little bit. But I stayed firm and veto all the expensive plans. (One thing tho, I kept referencing that my friend got a lower rate, so try to get him match to that plan) In the end, I got 0 initation fee (due to my company) and 25 per month (due to donating blood and everything)
