I've been using the Walmart app on my android phone for a good 3-4 weeks now with excellent results. Aquired good amount of 22lrs, 9mm, 380, 7.62 and 223 rounds during that time. Luckly I have 13 walmarts in my city and was able to hit the walmarts that have the ammo in stock.

You can find the free walmart app on android market or itunes. And these are what I learned so far while using it.

1. When it shows the ammo is in stock, it means several things. As soon as the ammo is scanned at the main warehouse, it shows its in stock. That means the ammo is anywhere from the main warehouse, on a truck and being still transported to your walmart. Or, it's sitting in the back of the stockroom at your walmart (in pallets) and not taken out to the floors yet. Or, shady employees are hiding it so they can buy it later.

2. Walmart is the most efficient and has the most advance inventory management in the world. If the employees are telling you different about the app, then they are misinformed or wrong. There are too many coincidence where I went to the walmarts that showed "in stock" and it was there. And too many times, after I buy the last box, 10-30 mins later, it shows "out of stock".

The other day, I went to one of the walmarts early to pick up some 22lrs that shows in stock early in the morning. Was told by the worker there that they didn't get any shipment in that morning. I stated otherwise...... manager even came to me and stated the same thing. Instead of arguing, I left to hit up other walmarts. Came back 1 hr later (app still showing its in stock), sure enough........ after I left, 20 mins later, they brought out that night's ammo shipment. Same again with walmart #2. Worker and manager there swore there was no shipment. But according to the app, the ammo that shows "in stock". changed to "out of stock" by 10am.

3. When it shows "limited stock", it means there are only 1-3 boxes left.

4. Find out when your walmart start selling their ammo. Usually the ammo shipment arrives in the evening and they wont start selling it until the morning. Mine is usually around 7-8am. Every walmart runs different. Some have 3 box limit, some has 1 box limit, some open at 7am, some sell ammo all night. I usually check the inventories at night and plan which walmart to hit in the mornings. Usually the app gets really busy around 6-8am and might crash.

5. The people I've been telling to about the walmart app been getting really lucky. Sure beats waiting in huge lines at bass pro shop or academy. The lines are usually sparse here since not alot know about the app.

Happen to stumble on a gold mine at glockforum.com forum. Using the Walmart app to scan barcodes off ammo boxes to search certain ammo that is not showing up on the usual search. So naturally they saved the pics of the barcodes. Now I can search for tulammo for 9mm.

Great thanks to the original posters in these threads below.

Looks like when I use the iPhone app it only checks the closes 10 stores. We live in indianapolis and there is a Walmart on every corner. Used the app on iPad and it lets u see store avalibility in a map view. Works better for me. But never tought of this. GREAT POST!!
App for the ipad will give a map view of all the walmarts in your city. Very helpful if you have more than 10 walmart stores. Thanks Kegjon

Scored 500 rounds of WWB 9mm. I checked the app at 10pm and was at the store at 10:10pm. Had to ask customer service in the back and they brought it out to me. The walmart employee was asking me about CHLs and I talked him through the process. I think thats why he gave me 5 boxes instead of limiting me to 3, from what everyones been saying. No issues at checkout with the 5 boxes. Thanks OP

Two stores near me had Remington .22LR 225ct in stock. Each store had 10 boxes (as per in-store scanner)

Sporting Goods guys denied they had .22LR, then said they're still on the truck. I waited 30 minutes, then they said they're not unloading the truck at this time - it's halfway unloaded but "it looks like the workers went on lunch"

Drove to other store, first asked electronics employee whether truck was unloaded - it was. Checked stock - 10 boxes. SG guy verbally denied having .22LR - said the count must be off. I ask for a manager, he said hold on I'll go back to check. Comes back and said that they are NOT for sale until 7AM the next morning - that's when they'll be brought out.

Next morning I check stock at 6:30AM and both stores were OOS.

I would first go to the department manager, then the store manager, then the regional manner.

I don't know if I mentioned it here or not, but the store employee was offering to sell me bricks of .22LR out of his own supply. The same employee has told me for weeks there was no ammo coming in.

They are lying about it coming in, the are hoarding it behind the counter, or selling it to themselves with their employee discount, and then selling it at flea markets, to friends, or on Gunbroker.

I don't know the Walmart distribution system, but why would some stores get ammo and other stores get none? Is it automatically ordered, is it distributed evenly, or ???

Either way, if the employee had it to offer to me, then he was buying it, and he wasn't going down the street to a sporting goods store to buy it and then sell it to me out of his car.

Happens I was at the Walmart counter looking for ammo. Happened to mention I was there because I met some guys in the parking lot to sell them some 9mm...a customer asked me if I had more, and ended up selling him 3 boxes for his son.

The app doesn't look to be updating. Same store has said in stock last 3 days, and limited stock last 3 days. Not everyone is having this issue?

It is updating fine for me. I've used this system successfully 3 time now. I got some Winchest .45 100 round boxes earlier today, and it shows that another store by me got some .40S&W in tonight, so I'm going to go in early and try and get some in the morining. If your store hasn't gone back to OOS the most likely scenario is that the ammo is being hidden by an employee, or it could possibly have been stolen off the truck. This really sucks because it makes it almost impossible to know when new ammo comes in (if it always says that they have some "in stock"). Good luck, man. Just gotta keep trying. It works.

This is what is happening. The Walmart stock count is almost always 100% correct. The employees are hiding the rounds in the store and buying them when they have the money to do so. I would get management involved if you wish... I really don't care so much as I have allot of ammo I have been hording. It is realatively easy to buy my max rounds almost everyday. The only thing in my area is that 380 is not as available but I can get all the 9mm, 22 and 45 I want in both target and defense ammo.

Boom. A friend and I scored 800 rounds of 40S&W this morning from 2 different Walmarts. All 5 times the app has showed ammo change to "in stock" I have scored ammo. Don't give up guys! Keep trying...

After a while, you will start seeing a pattern. What walmarts to avoid, what walmarts consistently put out ammo, same group of people show up when ammo sales open, which walmarts sell their ammo at what time, etc..

Ammo do come in regularly, few boxes at a time. App does work. It wont if the employees are hiding them or are stolen. If the high demand ammo shows its in stock for couple of days but none on the shelves, chances are its stolen.

The demand for ammo is still there but not as bad during the early months of this year. And the prices of ammo been going down on gun auctions except 22lr. So its not looking good for the flippers thats been buying it up. =D. So the market has been getting better. Eventually not everyone can afford to buy expensive ammo at this rate too long. Sooner or later, their credit card bills are due and tax refunds are already used up.

I believe this works, just trying to get it right. Thanks for the help/tips. Do you guys put the ammo you're looking for in the List and check from there? Do you search ammo/ammunition manually each time you launch app? Does your app show you how much in stock and when it came in as stated earlier?

Thanks again

You have to search each one manually every time. The app and mobile website will only tell you one of three things: Out of stock, limited stock, or In Stock. The trick is to check what you are looking for regularly to see when it changes. I had been watching 40SW and it had showed limited stock for 3 weeks. Last night it changes to In Stock. I went and waited at 6:15am, and at 6:30am they brought the ammo out. They had 40 and 45. I can't stress enough that you need to watch and track the status of each ammo. When it changes status they definitely got some.

Thanks, unfortunately the closest one to me is the one that has said "In Stock" since I've started using the app. I have to hope they sell/find this supposed ammo so that I can start truly tracking it. I'll keep checking the others to see what happens.

The only thing I would suggest is bringing it to their attention that their inventory tracker shows that they have it in stock even though they don't. The manager might check and verify that there is no stock and correct their inventory system. They also might make a note to watch the shipments for that particular ammo in the future to see if it's being stolen. Just a thought...

We score ammo everyday using this app. you have to know how to interprete the results and what to do. The first 7-10 days we was able to purchase over 10k rounds. now I kind of backed off and get 4-6k rounds a week. They are really good for 22LR rounds as not too many places have rounds online. I can get 9mm, 445 and 556 rounds locally or online. The deals are out there and you have to be dilegent and look for them. Good luck shooting!
