Once again, I'm surprised how much more quickly a new starter spins. I ought to be developing an ear for the sound of a failing starter by now, I think laugh out loud
Yup, that sound ought to be recognizable.
Hope the new one holds out a long, long time.

The general reputation that remanufactured starters have is part of the reason I chose this other shop... 12k/1 year warranty! Grin

If it's not locally remanufactured/rewound, you stand about a 20-to-30% chance of getting a good reliable starter, judging from all the posts I read on the Jalopy Journal. I tend to believe their pessimism, simply because I grew up around my grandfather, who was an electrician/engineer who rewound armatures on electric motors in the 50s and 60s.

Remember those days, when there were trustworthy local shops that performed this work?

I've read much the same kind of stories on the Mercedes and Miata forums. I had notions of rebuilding the Mercedes starter myself, sent the old one with the kid that ended up buying it from me.

Let's see now . . . for this weekend:

Wishing F1 happy motoring...

Wishing VViles plenty of sleep/rest and Sassy hugs...

Wishing DC some quality time with his morning cups of coffee...

Wishing BQ plenty of frisky time...

Wishing TB and Shades some good weather...

Wishing The Llama some relief from that "headache"...

Wishing Chewspam some good moonshine...

Finally, wishing myself luck installing freshly chromed parts back on the 55 Caddy, as few distractions otherwise as possible, and some sunshine/fresh air for working in the yard. Leaf season is almost done, thankfully.

I'm afraid the populace here doesn't have a sufficient automotive knowledgebase to slake my thirst for vehicle-specific information. The Miata forum has original owners posting, with over 300k miles on the first model year car... they've seen everything there is to see with the things nod

This craiglist posting seems almost like a joke... evidently a little person has moved to the area, and is looking for other little people, to form an Insane Clown Posse tribute band.

HOLY SHIT, the guys at Advanced Plating in Nashville, TN did an unbelievably FANTASTIC job with my headlight bezels (trim rings) and the flying goddess hood ornament.

Looks like I'm stacking Papa John's codes. Got an email for two large cheese pizzas for $13 (for it being Friday the 13th), and the bonus code to get extra reward points for a free pizza later. Just added some toppings to one of the pizzas to get over the $15 minimum for the second code.
