Coupling with long lines for everything (purchase, return, asking questions), it makes more sense to shop elsewhere (unless you are a CostCo fanboys and you don't response to logics).
If you find better deals at Target for stuff you want, it sounds logical to shop there, but other people have plenty of logical reasons why they shop at Costco as well.
Also, if everything you buy at Costco breaks in 6-12 months, you're doing something wrong, but you do know they have a very generous return policy, right?

I wish that was true. I had a horrific experience getting the spg amex offer recently.
Online confirmed denied my application because sometimes zip comes up as one city but is actually another. Site said call number to confirm address. Foreign agent (I asked for local rep, none available) confirmed address, application was approved, and told I'd recieve card by Monday (it was Thursday). Following Thursday card never arrived. Called CS got Utah and after 1.5 hrs researching they discovered foreign agent shipped card to different address and was signed as recieved by unknown person (same city as mine).
No charges... yet.
They refused to reissue card until original card/number was canceled for 10 days.
Two days later a new card with same original number arrives. I try to activate it, and they think I'm a thief. I finally prove to phone LP I'm customer and they get me to CS. Another hour, threats to cancel account and a new card/number is overnighted.
I would have definitely not applied and after my bonus in 3-6 months I might still bail. Amex DID have amazing CS. I got the card for the Amex customer service and since I was losing my Costco (and only) Amex card. This experience had made that pretty much pointless now. I got this particular amex because of the perks.... perks I wasn't able to use on a first trip because of card delay, and nearly missed on second.
Eggs are a great price, Oreos, vitamins, bananas, gum, produce in general, and so on are on par or cheaper than anywhere else without searching/clipping for coupons or waiting for a deal.
Our Costco is closer than the closest Walmart. There are two other Costcos within driving distance. We usually go when the lines are short and stock up so we can go once a month. Walmart lines are always super long, and aisles are usually packed with people and their 5 kids that seem to always be in tow.
These things may not be your experience, so I understand that Costco is not something you want, but Costco does make sense for us, although Sam's Club would have likely worked if it was closer.
