I am creating this thread only because I posted this information in other threads and found out that not many people realize you can use costco codes ( which tend to net out lower rates quite a few times) without an active costco memership.
I am not saying this always gives a lower rate , just more often than not , so worth trying before you book elsewhere.

YMMV because some people have reported being asked for a costco card at the rental location. So I would keep a backup fully refundable rental just in case. FWIW , I have not been asked for my costco card over about 2 years at airport and local locations with Enterprise , Avis and Budget. Have not rented with alamo through costco yet.

Here is how I do this
  1. Goto https://www.costcotravel.com/Rental-Cars. Codes for Enterprise , Avis , BUdget and Alamo are available on that page
  2. Click on " Low Price Finder" to find the best option for your location and dates .
  3. Once you know which Car Rental Agency you are going with , goto their website and use the codes from Step 1 above on the Car Rental Website. You maybe asked for costco information but that field is optional. You can even put an inactive / invalid costco membership number. I have never been asked for a Costco ID at the rental location.
  4. Do not try to book through costco website as that would need you to put costco membership information.

For Reference , Below are the current codes from https://www.costcotravel.com/Rental-Cars

Yea and also at car rental places, they dont even input in your Costco card #, they just look at it to verify. Because of the discounts when you book using these codes, they don't like it as they are renting the cars out really cheap when they could get double if not $10-15 more on the rate per day.

Damn. Good deal. I booked a 3 day Intermediate rental at BOS through Budget including 30% off the rack rate + 1 free weekend day and Costco still beat it by $8. To generalize broadly from that, these deals are likely unbeatable and there is no reason to spend your time checking anything other than Hotwire and Priceline.

I am at 212 in New York for 5 days and some hours for Intermediate (Hyundai Elantra or similar). I feel like I could do better, but this is the best I could find anywhere, including painfully searching locations 4 at a time on Costco

What's typically cheaper, AAA or Costco?

I've been checking my Enterprise rental prices over the last few weeks and knocked it down to $133 for a one week reservation. That's about $19/day, is this a good deal? I'm picking it up in downtown Seattle.

Booking directly through Avis is $18 lower than Costco's website on a weekly rental.

If I book directly thru CostcoTravel.com (which I already did), does anyone know if I can use Alamo's "Skip The Counter" feature? This where you check-in on line and go right to the garage and get your car. I did this in the past booking thru Alamo.com and it worked great. It appears I can do the same with the Costco reservation because I was able to look up my reservation on the Alamo site (based on the Alamo Confirmation number for Costo Travel) and it was letting me check-in, but didn't go all the way thru the process. With everyone saying how they want your membership card, I didn't know how this would work.

I was able to find cheaper rates by going to Kayak to filter best rates then go directly to company's website. Both rates pre paid and regular reservation were beat by 50 bux

Just an FYI

The Alamo codes work, but they are currently only valid until 6/30/17, so past that date, you will only get Alamo rates. I would imaging new ones will come out soon.

Let me clarify. The coupon code does not work. Will the discount and additional driver apply with the Contract ID only? Using codes below. Thanks.
