Original Post

To celebrate their 150th year of Confederation, Canada is offering fee-free entry to all of their National Parks, nearly 100 of them, all of 2017.

Quote :
Make admission for all visitors to National Parks free in 2017, the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Beginning in 2018, ensure that admission for children under 18 is free, and provide any adult who has become a Canadian citizen in the previous 12 months one year's free admission.

Thanks OP! This sounds wonderful, and I may even plan my next vacation accordingly.

This is seriously the first reply? Let's not cast our country's angst and paranoia on our neighbors to the north, eh?

Charging a admission fee is a good filter that helps to keep the criminal/undesirable elements of society out of the parks. I'm sure the park crime rate will increase during 2017.

Nice to know so, I will make sure to stay away in 2017. I am glad to pay a fee to keep the parks safer...
maybe. maybe not. perhaps it depends on how much is the fee?

we have a national park here in my state, it's free and it's open 24/7 with no park entrance and the visitor center closes in the evening, and it's virtually crime-free. i think it depends on the park. might be a good way to see some of canada's less frequented remote parks.

besides, i'm certainly not exactly afraid of crime in the us national parks. we allow weapons. Stick Out Tongue

probably not as Quetico is a provincial park not national.

Actually, to an American, it might sound that way considering the stereotype in US media. But we do not say "aboot." It's more like "aboat," but it can vary from region to region depending on the Gaelic influence. Ya'll.
