Vaping Vaporizers and E-cigs for a dummy?

936 283 December 1, 2016 at 09:51 AM
Really trying to quit smoking again and switch over to vaping full time. many years ago I temporarily bought an ecig and some liquids online to try to quit. it ended up being messy and made me have headaches/loss of concentration. i imagine it was a mixture of heavy nicotine dose and shitty chemicals in the juice i was buying.

Ive heard vaping uses a coil that heats up and flash steams the juices, is this correct? do vaporizers heat up any plastic components releasing toxins? does the heating of the coil release any toxins? is vaping truly better than smoking cigarettes?

Also what is the best online forum for me to scour to find a good starter set? I already have plenty of high current 18650, 26650-26700 batteries i can use.

Pretty much.

Some of them may?
The RDA I use on my Kanger definitely does not, it's all metal, cotton, and juice (the tank is Pyrex, and I use a stainless steel drip tip).

There's still a lot of study to be done here. I have seen a study that showed that it did, unfortunately it was missing some extremely relevant data points--what I could get out of it was that it could in the right circumstances, generally at higher power levels, and when heated beyond the point where people would find the flavor satisfactory.

See above, it's still being studied. However, given the lack of tar and various other chemicals produced during the combustion process of tobacco, it's hard to imagine it not being more healthy. Especially if it's just being used as a temporary tobacco cessation method.

I think the vaping/e-cig subreddit or one of the dedicated e-cig forums are probably the best place to go.
That said, the Kanger Subtank/Toptank mini is a good way to go.

i think it helps some people quit. it just ends up a cheaper replacement for some people. the science is still out if it is healthier or more harmful. i want to say the juice isn't regulated by FDA and most of it is imported from china. so there is always that risk.

green smoke sells a trial kit for some areas if you want to see if it works for you.

you can start at a high % and work your body down to a lower % and even 0. i used v2 juice, pen and their refillable tops (see pic below). i think the initial investment was like 60 bucks for everything and lasted me a while (like 3 months).

Refilling was simple with the eyedropper and better than refilling the cheaper blanks.

Cigalikes are all pretty awful, but if they work for some people, great Smilie

I quit 14 years ago after smoking a pack a day for 25 years. I used the patch for a couple of months and that was it. I think it comes down to...how bad do you want it? I have seen people panic because they can't breath. I remember I used to imagine that dead woman clerk from beetlejuice who had wiffs of smoke drifting from the hole in her throat, while she would puff away.Thats about all it took for me.

Just so you know the urge to smoke gets less and less after the first 2-3 weeks. And no your not gonna go crazy if you cant smoke.

I bet I have saved about $20,000.00 since quitting.

You can do it.

A teacher of mine in HS, who started smoking during WWII and quit smoking 30 years later tallied up the price of all his cigarettes (keep in mind they were dirt cheap back then) adjusted the price for inflation and realized he had smoked the equivalent of a nice three bedroom home. That's when he stopped cold turkey.

Don't go cheap. Yesterday was my first month of not smoking in over 25 years thanks to my vape. I'm going to cut down the nicotine in my juice next month and hopefully be done vaping in 6 months. Go to a vape shop and look at different models. I use a Cortex battery pack. The tank is really a matter of preference.

Most of the stuff has no regulations, you don't know where it comes from. The ones that claim they're high quality are 5x more expensive than the Ecigs you see in walmart. Studies are showing both ways that they're healthier and worse.

I had to do quite a lot of reading into it myself since it's become so common place that people will blow that vape stuff in your vicinity with no regards for what you want.

Just quit, smoking makes your breath stink, gives you diseases, and lowers your healht. My uncle could barely walk up 10 steps without huffing and puffing after smoking for years.

Spend the extra money, there's usually at least one e-cig explosion every week in the PNW, the local news just quit posting about it since it happens so often here.

Which ones are even US-made? Scratchhead
Make sure the battery is vented, and that you're not using a poor quality battery.
And FFS, if you're going to keep it in your pocket, make sure it's off.

Well if he's gotta go thru all that trouble, he may as well just smoke.
