This for above 18 only (or 21 only, age rules in your state mary vary YMMV)
Costco in San Fran [
in other cities as well, YMMV] has good prices on whiskey (could be in other cities hence the YMMV, I have attached a picture for you to price out), Blended Japanese whiskey, I have been paying 120 to 150 for the 12 and 15 yrs Hibiki on these whiskey, this is a great deal for regulars.
IMHO : This Whiskey is very smooth and matches the Blue label, now what makes it better is that its single malt, unlike the blue labels which are blended event at the 189/ltr price point.

Edit:
User @sharka
posted a link as a comparison Post#22, however when you click on the link the price is 72$, and then shipping + taxes brings is way over ~40$ more, so this is clearly cheaper!
I attached screen shot from the total wine store , and

the fremont one had some higher class stuff two weeks ago and now they are gone! I should've picked some stuff up.
they brought back the glenmorangie triple box (109.99) for their typical 3. also Johnie walker green is now back in the states at Costco at about $47.
other notable is the Hakushu at $68. I bought a bottle months ago but haven't opened.
the Kirkland 25y.o Speyside has some decent amateur reviews on Reddit. $90
there's a Macallan 15 + gold gift box that is also watch box for $150.
Glenfarclas 25 at $130. compass box peat monster at $50(low stock). they have had Laphroaig 10 for months but I think there price dropped to $36?
anyways the three Japanese whisky they carry is toki, hibiki harmony, and hakushu 12. https://www.thewhiskyex
thanks
excuse my poor typing. did it on mobile
Anyway sweet deal on this whiskey only, looking for some single malts cmon costco!
Hibiki was formerly a 12 year bottle, however due to the Japanese whisky shortage that started after Yamazaki Sherry Cask won best whisky in the world, Suntory (the manufacturer of both Hibiki and Yamazaki) removed the age designation from Hibiki and rebranded it as "Harmony" (instead of Hibiki 12).
Having tried both Hibiki 12 and Hibiki Harmony side by side, Hibiki Harmony is less refined. It punches you in the mouth with alcohol compared to Hibiki 12. Hibiki 12 was one of the smoothest whiskies I'd ever tried, and was almost always in my liquor cabinet. Hibiki 12 was my go-to bottle (and could be had at Costco for less than $50 before the Yamazaki win). I avoid Hibiki Harmony entirely now and have switched to The Hakushu 12 for Japanese whisky.

But this one is Blended. Jap Harmony Hibiki for $60 is regular price in all Liquor superstores, everywhere (buyrite, liquor locker, etc.).
Hibiki 12 and 17 is what you need. Hib 12 is hardly made so its not easy to get.
Yamazaki 12 is awesome!! 18 even more.

I was just in Japan a few weeks ago and tried Hibiki 12 and 17, as well as the cheaper stuff. Yamazaki and Hibiki 12 were the sweet spots for me, but I couldn't find any stores stocking bottles of it, even in Japan!
The Harmony definitely has the alcohol taste that the 12/17+ does not.
I've not tried the blue label and never intend to for its price.
I am using a Chivas Regal 18 as my intro to whiskey for people I know. Also it has become my "mixer" too if i just want it with coke =p.
The highland Kirkland you're speaking of is the 16y.o. I have it, dont like it. I'm tempted to get the 25 year speyside one for $90 though. Still debating since I have many unopened bottles that I've never tried: ardbeg uigeadail, balvenie doublewood, Hakushu and macallan 12.
Current open bottles: Lag 16, Oban 14, Kirkland 16 highland, Chivas Regal 18, Crown Royal Rye Harvest(not a fan, using as mixer. damn you Jim Murray, you crazy man).
