Cool, now if they would just bring back the senior discount. I would bet that move hurt them more than it helped, especially doing it unannounced. It's their prerogative but I'm sure it left a lot of seniors with bad tastes in their mouths and I'm sure places like HEB and Walmart have benefitted from it.

that must have been why every so often there were herds of old people in the store....makes sense now.

What was the discount and when did they stop it?
It was a 10% discount on meat/seafood/produce as well as any kroger brand/private selection items. Obviously, this is a huge number of items that seniors would be buying at Kroger. It was abandoned a couple weeks ago without warning, with Kroger citing abuse of the program by some groups as a cause (though offering no real evidence). It's their prerogative, but you'd think that targeting the large groups who, for instance, would have been abusing the same senior account while using different methods of payment, to snuff out the abuse. Instead, they've shot themselves in the foot by canceling the entire program.
At my local Houston store I've noticed a decrease in traffic but that might be the placebo effect on my part.
My parents both took advantage of this program and while they aren't on a fixed income and therefore it isn't a necessity, I'm sure the same can't be said for other seniors here.
I wondered about that. For us it was 5% across the board on Tuesdays. My wife wouldn't go to Kroger on Tuesdays because she hated dealing with all the seniors but, to me, 5% was 5% FWIW, we're not seniors, but somewhere we got tagged as such in the system, and I sure wasn't going to correct it. I noticed it was gone a couple of months ago, but didn't inquire because I thought maybe they'd found us out.
Mine was right at the top after opening digital coupons.
it just showed up in one of two accounts. It showed up on it's own caterogy above "digital savings event ", but in the other account it's not there...maybe it'll arrive later...those slow bytes
