Slickest way to dispose of unwanted Best Buy gift cards?

79 170 March 17, 2017 at 10:28 AM
I've been fortunate enough to receive some gift cards from work as part of an employee recognition program...but unfortunate in that there aren't good gift card options to choose from.

So I've got $500 in BB gift cards that I don't really want. I know I could just resell via Raise.com for +/- $430, or try ebay and clear something similar, or wait for a Craigslist buyer that's not a scammer, but there's gotta be something smarter than that.

I think in the good ol' days stores that sold gift cards to other stores would allow you to buy them with gift cards, but that loophole's been closed pretty much everywhere.

So what do you pros do? Is it a matter of waiting for a really good deal at Best Buy that would have local Craigslist resale potential? Are there any legit gift card trading sites out there? Any other ideas?

I have a $40 bb gc I just can't get rid of because there's nothing worth buying.

I was hoping my local store would sell gas station gc's, but nope.

Has anyone had any success splitting a large gc into smaller gc's?
If I could just split them into $9.xx amounts, I could cash them all out here in california.

The problem with gift cards is that most credit cards don't give you extended warranty unless the entire amount is charged to the cc.

Amex lets you pay with cc and gc for extended warranty, but doesn't have price protection, so if the price drops, you can't get money back. Amex also has a shitty rewards program with a point system.

These giftcards suck

You can always buy something on a GC and then return it and get a smaller GC and then cash it out. Massive PITA if you ask me but I don't see why that wouldn't be doable.

Personally since they stopped selling Amazon and gas station GCs if I get a Best Buy GC I just keep it until Christmas or a birthday and then just gift it to some other poor bastard to deal with Big Grin

It might still be possible with reward certificates, but they stopped allowing it with gift cards a little while ago.

To be honest I'd rather support brick and mortar stores over the evil empire of Amazon.
Scamazon stays in business through variety of selection, and occassional good pricing. Their policies are worse than the most diseased of B&M stores. But still, it's easier to get value from Scamazon cards than Best Buy cards.

Very rarely do they price anything at a good enough price to make me want to buy nowadays. By comparison Walmart and even Target have clearance deals that put Amazon's 'sale' prices to shame most times.

My BB stopped letting people buy GC with GC. Is it store dependent or by state?

It's across the chain. I think even Gamestop stopped allowing people to buy some cards (like Amazon) with their gift cards or trade credit.
