Lowe's (online and in-store) is offering GE Z-Wave In-Wall On/Off Smart Switch [lowes.com] for $27.99 through 3/27/2017, which is $12 off the regular price and about $9 less than the next lowest price I am seeing from reputable merchants (e.g., $36.85 at Home Depot and Jet). This switch was frontpage/fire deal in November at $32.55. The switch is available in both paddle [lowes.com] and toggle [lowes.com] formats. Works with various home automation platforms, including SmartThings, Iris by Lowe's, etc. Free store pickup at Lowe's, or free shipping on orders over $49.

Older wiring does not have a neutral wire (usually white wire bundle in the back of a switch box)

Hot: The black wire is the hot wire, which provides a 120 VAC current source.

Neutral: The white wire is called the neutral wire. It provides the return path for the current provided by the hot wire. The neutral wire is connected to an earth ground.

Ground: The bare wire is called the ground wire. Like the neutral wire, the ground wire is also connected to an earth ground. However, the neutral and ground wires serve two distinct purposes.

The neutral wire forms a part of the live circuit along with the hot wire. In contrast, the ground wire is connected to any metal parts in an appliance such as a microwave oven or coffee pot. This is a safety feature, in case the hot or neutral wires somehow come in contact with metal parts.

Just replaces switch.
I used to think the same thing, until someone I knew who was being very cautious still got bit. The wire came off of the screw and by chance hooked around his finger instead. He woke up in a pile of his own fluids at the other end of the hallway. I know 120VAC is just a tickle, but it still has the potential to do serious damage. It will only add a minute to flip the breaker, and that removes the risk altogether.
Good switch if you have a nuetral wire in your switch box, otherwise you'll need to go with something like caseta.

I have regular non z-wave non dimmable toggle switches. Does it matter if I buy the paddle style z-wave switch or is it easier if I buy the toggle style z-wave switch itself?

I have Smartthings and OSRAM Lightify bulbs in a room with no current wall switch. Can this be used to control these bulbs or does this just replace a current wall switch controlling an existing outlet?

Rep given for good point.

Can you elaborate though and what do you mean by switch box? If they are replacing or upgrading newer outlets/switches ran for lights newer than 15 years they should have 3 wires ran but you could easily check on the light by taking the cover off and honestly I would not bother with the breaker if you use q insulated screwdriver and don't do anything silly will removing it.

Doesn't all wiring have neutral aside from hot and ground?

I only have paddle, you just hold the paddle to bright / dim, not sure how the toggle functions, never cared for the look of it.
