The NS-WAC10 @ Amazon is most similar to NS-WSC10 @ Costco, and will probably be compared to NS-WXC10 @ Bed Bath and Beyond. Unit is made in China. I've tried to summarize differences below.

What do you recommend in this price range or lower?
Zojirushi makes great rice cookers. Not sure what OP is smoking.
The cheapest "Made in Japan" model I've seen is the Tiger JBA-T10U [amazon.com], which is probably discontinued with limited stock. I bought mine for $60, arrived today, haven't tried it yet. Last front page deal for said model is here.

This inexpensive model produced perfectly tender-chewy white, brown, and sushi rice, and it came with useful features like a digital timer that lets the cook know when the rice is nearly ready, clear audio alert, and a delayed-start function. Although it makes up to 8 cups of cooked rice, it takes up only a small amount of counter space and can be easily tucked away. The inner lid pops out for hassle-free cleanup.

Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker and Warmer
This pricey option took the longest of all the machines to prepare brown rice, but it produced consistently excellent white, brown, and sushi rice. The "fuzzy logic" technology supposedly adjusts time and temperature settings as needed during cooking, and its extensive menu includes settings for "harder" or "softer" rice as well as "quick cooking" (though the rice will be slightly firmer). Its timer and water line markings are clear and the removable inner lid is easy to clean.

Oster 6-Cup Rice Cooker
For a cheap, one-button machine, this model produced impressive white and sushi rice, though brown rice was a tad dry. Its lift-off lid maintained a tight seal, so rice cooked quickly. It lacks a timer but makes an audible click as it switches to keep-warm mode.

Cuckoo is manufactured in South Korea. It cooks fantastic tasting rice that stays warm and can be enjoyed a few days after the initial start. Mine replaced an older Zojirushi, but I never had a problem with either.
I'd definitely stay clear of low end models that are made in China.
