There is a performance hit when running software raid. Correct me if i'm wrong, but this server only has one CPU so the performance hit will be noticed.

for home use it is quite pointless to have a dedicated software raid box. $30 RAID card can perform much better than most software RAID build.

+1 for Hardware Raid in most cases. It's fire and forget...if you bork your OS and it's running your RAID...you'll wish for hardware raid.

I'd buy this if I hadn't already bought the t20 in Feb. It was $120 cheaper but this has the v5 processor and 8 gig.

Also just thought I'd add - the 8g of memory on the system is not ECC ram, which for some is a requirement for a NAS, and would add a bit to the cost.
