IMO, YT Red is the only benefit to having this. I wasn't a fan of Google Play service when I had it, never really even used it.

When you're not on a computer. I cast YouTube videos through the iPad app to Chromecast, so having no ads when doing that is awesome.

If you buy a Raspberry Pi you can use Pi-hole to block all the ads on all the devices (only through your home network, though.) It's a glorious alternative that isn't too harsh on the wallet.
