Many of these cheap adapters don't work with some US cars, especially Ford. The more expensive BAFX seems to have best compatibility not sure about this one.

Not how it works at all. Apple just doesn't open up network access over Bluetooth for developers. But Bluetooth LE scanners work just fine with iPhone.

I do not recommend the wireless/bluetooth ones. Usually doubles the hassle. Get one for $10-15 that has built in monitor and you will be much happier. Just my opinion
