You're totally right. I have no experience with the 75-300, but I had the old 70-300 EF which was at least as good as the 55-250, if not sharper but was lacking image stabilization. Gotta look closer...

I've had this exact same problem. If there are good copies out there, I've yet to see one. Even in live view with manual focus using additional digital zoom the photos come out looking low res. IMO...
