For tourist in US who would only use amazon once, he can load exact amount to make the purchase, more flexible than gift card. That's the only benefit I can think of.

or there's just better pricing everywhere else, which is mostly the case. your $10 savings are not really savings if you are paying extra to buy it through amazon. also amazon charges tax.
