You use this lid for slow cooking or making yogurt. Really any function of the IP that doesn't require pressure cooking.

You don't need it. The lid that comes with it is all you need. The clear glass just lets you check on it without taking the lid off.

It comes with a pressure cooker type lid. This is for sautéing meats etc. prior to pressure cooking.

We use ours for rice, after it's made and it's on "keep warm". If you serve food from the pot, it's a lot nicer to have guests use a see thru lid. Otherwise people (kids especially) pass it by...
