If you place the drive with the connector board up, gently push from underneath on the opposite side. (it's just wedged in the inner chassis) Be careful not to break the LED Light transporter.

I'm not sure if what I did was the easiest way but I just copied all the data off the drives in my ix2 NAS and took out the old drives and put in the new 8TB drives and did a factory reset of the NAS...
