My wife's Moto G4 got 7.0 some time ago. Usually G series get at least one major update. I know my Moto G2 got two updates (L and M). I think the assumption is the G5 will get at least O, if not P.

I don't know of a way to block the ads, but there is a setting you can use that skips the lock screen and goes straight to your home screen so you never see the ads anyways.

I would be leaning toward this phone as opposed to LG G5 if this one had optical image stabilization. The lack of it seems to be the reason why this phone's camera quality is lackluster in low light.
