Try pulling power and removing batteries from the hub then power back on. It should rebuild the mesh networks.

Can't you move it closer temporary to see if that fixes it ? If it does, all you need is a repeater half way. Some switch at 20 to 30 dollars should do the trick.

As a SmartThings user, I would say that their platform stability has increased to the point where I'd now recommend folks get this. You still have to be technical/a tinkerer to take full advantage.
