Ok, I may try it again using your dates, because I just put SMF and SJO and just look through the dates from today till June 2018......and the lowest I saw is $6xx??

Im still seeing 260 on Volaris from Sacramento. Did you use Google Flights as per the post? I booked Feb 4th through Feb 12th earlier today from SMF. There isn't any in December/January but otherwise...

Yes rainy season is roughly May through November. Best time to go is December or January because it should be dry but the vegetation is still green from the rains. Unfortunately this is high season...

Volaris also does not include any checked bags in their international flights. And they want to charge a currency conversion fee and a bunch of other mysterious charges that they only list in Spanish.

We liked Costa Rica.... just be aware that when renting a car online - the prices are artificially low and you will probably be charge a surcharge of $400+ per week for "government imposed" insurance...
