FYI: yours is a dual core vs the newer quad cores. I wouldn't really go for any dual core unless you really need the computer now.

yeah that sucks and one of the big reasons I'll return the Swift 3 is the 8gb max. The Aspire has 2 slots of DDR so I may go that route even though I do like the slimmer 14"

That might be true, but you'll feel hobbled by 8gb. I use 12gb in my desktop and even that gets full or close to full occasionally. 16gb is the sweet spot right now.

Cost. Mainly. And there isn't much for performance gains with it. Especially since this isn't a high performance system I would rather have a better cpu or gpu then marginally better ram.

Good deal, this is the new Quad Core Hyper Threaded processors from Intel.... so 8 threads... these laptops typically had 2/4 so max 4 threads... very good.

Seems like a decent deal, although a lot of reviews are pointing out mediocre battery life and a dim low contrast display. At this price point you can't have it all though.
