I have this monitor... just bought a few weeks ago for $165. HDMI works fine @ 2560x1080 75Hz. Just make sure your GPU supports it... which the 1060 does.

I think I finally understood your question. If you want to use the dual controller, then, yes you do need to use both the HDMI and the USB-C inputs. You don't have to have USB-C out of your laptop...
