Car seats are more for weight limit than age. This particular car seat can be use up to 22 LBS Rear facing and after that Forward Facing until the child hits 65 LBS.

For a new baby, check out the doona. A bit pricey, but totally worth it. Only sad part is they outgrow it in a year and you have to buy one of these. The doona impresses everyone that sees it.
