My local Vons stop taking CC for Visa/Master/AMEX GC a while back, cash only.
I wish it works for me as I need to spend $5k on my new AMEX card in 3 months.

Not really. You just buy them on a cash back card to eat into the fee, and the rest comes from the promo.

Incorrect math... $5.95 fee per $100 gift card x 2 = $11.90 in fees > $15off - $11.90 = $3.10 net "profit" when buying $200 in gift cards plus credit card cashback.
