Probably not enough conductivity in gypsum. Never tried it though. This is specifically for wood.

So it specifically says wood less then 20mm thick. What would that have to do with it? That eliminates firewood as a subject to test.

Best way to check firewood is to split a piece and check the inside. Outside is not accurate. This is super cheap. I've had one for years. You want to stay 25% or under moisture content on firewood

This may be a newbie question but if it's only useful for 3/4 inch material would this be useful for raw lumber which is generally 4/4 or thicker? At 3/4 it seems likely to already be milled.

I bought one (for ~$20) for testing firewood, mostly when dealing with unknown sellers. I can't tell the difference between 5% and 50% moisture by eye, this is great for $4.
