The amps in these subs seem to be likely to prematurely crap out. I had one and the amp stayed warm all the time, even when not in use. I would probably steer clear of the 550p or pretty much any JBL...

Not sure what is going on with your sub, but my S10EQ auto-on engages just a couple of seconds after the audio comes on. There is no boom or other bad noise. Sounds like you have an issue somewhere....

Running 2 subs is almost always the way to go! I used to run 2 15's (Tempest X for those who know of them from AVS Forum DIY) 24" cubes off a 2400w amp. The good ol days.

No. The PL-200 II is the best of what you named. F12 being second. For under $300 BIC makes the best subs

Most sub amps have the same faith. One should look for radiators sticking out from the back (for better cooling). Regardless, i've seen Klipsch, Polk, even my Cerwin-Vega amp dies (BASH amp)....

The polk psw505 is $200 or less fairly often. Not a bad sub for that price, although $200 doesn't get you a very good sub.

I read that the B5 was a little more clearer than the B6, but with a narrower soundstage. That it is more for music, while the B6 is more for theater. Anyways, been considering picking up a B5.

As a DIY sub builder, I agree. The Elac is great but I prefer the PL 200. Goes down to 21Hz as well. The Bash amp of the 12" BIC is 1000 peak, 250 rms vs the 10" Elac is 400 peak, 200 rms.
