You should contact Harman and see what they have to say about this. Personally I would not accept new speaker in that condition. All my speakers came out perfectly.

Yeah I have noticed that they sound better when you are close to them. However, in my rti a1 comparison, they fell short in both highs, lows and clarity. I will be selling or returning mine.
