I'm with you. I'm all for teaching my children to take care of their toys, but there's no way i'd let them use an expensive phone as a toy. The lesson gets completely lost in that scenario imo.

I saw the round disc and thought of the old view finders I had in the early 80s which was just a couple of images you held up to the light. Now we stick phones in them for virtual reality.

All good..I agree you can build a PC for that, but I had the 970 and the more demanding VR games weren't getting 90fps.. i couldn't upgrade fast enough...you probably need atleast a gtx 1070 for...

I got this at Target on clearance for $5.99. It's worth the price under $20, but it's not the best thing in the world. I think I've used it a couple of times and then...meh...it's sitting on a shelf.

The current VR level is adequate for hours of gaming..it can always improve, but it is definitely at a good playable level now. It just takes a couple thousand in PC investments to get 90fps.. ;-)

Anecdotally, when I had a 970 I had no issues playing any game except Raw Data with which I had to reduce the render scale to maintain 90fps. Not a great experience with that much blurry chunk, but...
