Not necessarily true. Mine was rusted/stuck and no matter how hard or how many times I hit it with a mini sledge, it just didn't break free.

Not sure how you used it but I used one of these for my 98 Civic on the lower ball joint and it worked easily. I personally think the U fork that you hit on the end with a hammer works far better.

Not true. Honda’s are notorious for needing this style for ball joint separation. A pickle fork can damage the boot among other issues. Their ball joints are super tight.

Absolutely. I can't recall a time where i would need a tool like this. If it won't come out after knocking the knuckle you're probably looking at a bad joint anyway and will need to replace it.

Pickle fork is damn near impossible to use without tearing the rubber boots. It's fine if you're replacing it, but if you need to remove the ball joint to replace an axle or something it's a headache...

I don’t think autopart stores rent this style. They have more of a universal fork type separator. I found it’s easier to use this type than having to keep banging my hammer at the fork.

These work very well with tie rod ends and imagine other ball joints but for a fact it does not work on the lower ball joint (front) on civics 89-'06, not sure on those after 06 have not worked on...
